The Swatch x Omega "MoonSwatch" Speedmaster is the biggest affordable watch sensation since the Apple Watch first broke cover in early 2015. Perhaps more than any smartwatch debut, reaction to the "Bioceramic Collection" MoonSwatch mirrors the initial frenzy for the Swatch Sistem51 automatic winding mechanical Swatch watch of 2013. Regardless, the combination of Omega Speedmaster Professional as Swatch Watch pop culture relevance has created the wristwatch consumer phenomenon of 2022.

The Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch was redesigned for the 2021 model year as a Master Chronometer with a revised look, new bracelet, and co-axial caliber 3861. But with prices solidly over $6,000, the Speedmaster Professional remains a luxury product beyond the reach of many watch enthusiasts. Enter the Omega-Swatch alliance and the Bioceramic MoonSwatch Collection.

The MoonSwatch Speedmaster Chronograph has a retail price of $260. That's reasonable given the charm, durability, and style on offer. But when the Moonswatch arrived in March of 2022, all versions of the 42mm quartz chronograph sold out immediately. As of July 2022, the MoonSwatch remains unavailable at Swatch stores, and secondary markets such as chrono24 and eBay have witnessed price mark-ups of up to $4,000 for used examples of the new Swatch watch.

Omega offers eleven version of the MoonSwatch Speedmaster chronograph. All versions reference celestial bodies orbiting the Sun, the Sun itself, and Earth's moon. The varied colors of the "Mission" models reference the destination of each "mission." For example, the Earth is represented by a green chronograph; the Sun is represented by a yellow watch. Mars is predictably red, but it incorporates the famous "space capsule" sub-dial of the Omega Alaska Project II. The Swatch "Mission to the Moon" deliberately is the variant that most closely resembles the original Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch.

Swatch "Bioceramic" is a mix of hardened ceramic with biologically-derived plastic. It presents a composite that resists both scratching and shattering. The "bio" half of the composite is a polymer derived from castor plant oil. The reverse of each MoonSwatch edition includes a decorative battery cap with the image of the planet, star, or moon featured on the dial. Each watch includes a velcro strap and an ETA G10.211 quartz movement (G10.212 without a date).

Swatch x Omega MoonSwatch Editions include the Mission to the Sun, Mission to Mars, Mission to Mercury, Mission to Venus, Mission to Earth, Mission to Mars, Mission to Jupiter, Mission to Neptune, Mission to Saturn, Mission to Uranus, and Mission to Pluto.
