Tonight's show covers Tim's top 12 favorite sports watches for summer 2023. This episode features the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M dive watch, the Rolex Yacht Master II regatta timer, the Vacheron Constantin Overseas, and many more. Tim focuses on value, features, fit, and originality when selecting his favorite sports watches across the full range of the genre. Luxury watches for active lifestyles are the focus tonight, and Tim will provide a range or market prices for each model and brand cited.
A 2023 Rolex Submariner Date costs $10,250. But a 2023 Omega Seamaster Diver 300M costs only $5,900 by comparison. The Rolex is nearly twice as expensive as the Omega, but it's nowhere near twice the watch. Omega's dive watch first appeared as the "Seamaster Diver 300M" in 1993, and it soared to fame as the watch worn by Pierce Brosnan during his turn as James Bond starting in 1995. In 1996, the mechanical chronometer version of the Diver 300M arrived, and Omega has chosen to evolve its signature dive watch with the kind of deliberate gradualism once practiced exclusively by Rolex with its Submariner.
Whereas previous Seamaster designs were discarded periodically for total redrafts, Omega realized that the Diver 300M had become an icon with an entire era of watch buyers, and as of the model's 30th anniversary this year, the Diver 300M remains recognizable as the breakthrough design first shown in 1993. New features and a new movement arrive in 2018, and this Seamaster diver remains fresh five years later. Its 42mm stainless steel case encloses an Omega caliber 8800 automatic co-axial master chronometer with 55 hours of power reserve.
This "core" Seamaster boasts a diving depth of 300 meters and a helium escape valve for saturation divers. The unidirectional dive bezel incorporates 120-click action for precision and a ceramic bezel insert for durability. Its bracelet incorporates two extension systems: one push button incremental slider and one fold-out extension for use with diving suits.
2023 represents the thirtieth anniversary of the Seamaster Diver 300M and the 75th anniversary of the original Omega Seamaster water resistant watch of 1948. To mark the occasion, Omega has launched a new Seamaster Diver 300M "Summer Blue" with a smoked gradient blue dial and a matching bezel insert. It costs $6,300 - a small premium over the standard Omega Seamaster Diver 300M and its $5,300 retail price when equipped with a full bracelet.
Tonight, Tim Mosso covers the Omega Seamaster and eleven other sports watches that he rates as his personal favorites.
