When F.P. Journe debuted the ultra-light LineSport collection in 2011, the unorthodox choice of material for case, bracelet, and movement – aluminum, with its featherweight quality and light and silvery sheen – was a shock to those accustomed to François-Paul Journe’s distinct style of traditional watchmaking. Fast forward just nine years, and while the collection has evolved considerably, the sport watches within the LineSport line-up continue to impress with technical excellence, ergonomic design, and exquisite finishing.

In this special feature filmed by WatchBox Studios, George Mayer and C’Quon Gottlieb delve into the details of LineSport, bringing together examples of the full range for a rare ‘family reunion.’

The discussion begins with the phenomenally lightweight Centigraphe Sport and Octa Sport in aluminum, introduced in 2011 and 2012, respectively; followed by the transition to titanium casing in 2014. 2018 marked the arrival of new complications, materials, and proportions, with the introduction of the 44mm Chronographe Monopoussoir Rattrapante in red gold, platinum, and titanium. The Centigraphe and Automatique Réserve were also bumped up to 44mm in 2018, constructed with cases and bracelets in titanium, and dials in either bright yellow or sleek gray. And platinum and red gold variants were introduced in 2019, with handsomely finished guilloche dials and applied numerals in matte white or red gold.
