Different collectors have different styles, obviously, but Mike Shani's might just be one of the most impressive ones we've had in WatchBox Studios yet. Friend of the house and the man behind @shani.watch on Instagram, Mike has spent years building out his collection featuring some of the best from watchmakers like F.P. Journe, Philippe Dufour, Roger Smith, and more!
George Mayer sat down with the man himself to discuss what exactly has gone into creating and curating the timepieces he owns. They begin by looking at some watches Mike brought with him which includes the F.P. Journe Tourbillon Souverain with ruby and pink gold dials along with the Chronometre Optimum. He also brought in a Roger Smith Series 2 that the duo dive into.
They also touch on some watches he didn't get to bring with him such as the Philippe Dufour Simplicity and his first Journe watch, the Resonance. This leads into a conversation about what exactly the appeal of independent watch brands is anyway. Commitment to craftmanship and open communication are brought up as to why a collector would want to go the way of the independent. Finally, they also try to speculate as to who "The Next Big Thing" will be and what they're hoping to see out of some of the players in that market.
