We all love when new innovations are introduced in the watch industry. Different trends and times warrant different styles and demands when it comes to the finish and functionality of watches. Creating watches that fulfill these needs is tough for brands until they decide to step out of their comfort zones and explore using other materials. Brands such as Patek Philippe, AP, Rolex, Hublot, and Ulysse Nardin have made incredibly innovative timepieces through the exploration of new materials. Some of these monumental innovations of the 21st century in watchmaking are attributed to the introduction of Silicon, or silicium. However, it does have some negative qualities as well that could create some difficulties when used as a movement component.
