Ressence of Belgium and Switzerland is back with a new take on the Ressence Orbital Convex System (ROCS). Launched in 2017, the Ressence Type 1 Squared is a four-cornered take on the original Ressence watch design with a surprise on the case back.
Today's Ressence watch is the Type 1 Squared "RS," short for "ruthenium silver." The grey metal has been deposited on the dial of the Ressence Type 1 Squared in order to create a cool industrial aesthetic. All surfaces a brushed with a metallic grained texture and double-finished with silver accents for the displays of hours, days, and seconds.
The dial of the Ressence Type 1 features immense amounts of super luminova for night time legibility. Beneath the surface, the planetary regulator time display is driven by the Ressence Oribital Convex System. This movement module is designed and built entirely by Ressence; the ROCS includes 107 parts and 15 jewels. Beneath the module is an ETA 2824-2 Swiss automatic movement.
For 2017, Ressence has re-designed its case back setting system. A new fold-out lever makes setting the time, day, and winding of a Ressence watch more intuitive than ever. In contrast to the oil-filled Ressence Type 3, the Type 1 is far less complex, requires less care in handling, and -- down the line -- less costly maintenance.
Owning the Ressence Type 1 Squared allows watch buyers to enjoy the world of independent watchmaking without the delicate mechanisms and odd operating restrictions that often come with independent horology; the Ressence Type 1 is a set-it-and-forget it luxury watch for the daily grind!
The Ressence Type 1 Squared is encased in 41mm of ruthenium silver surrounding a grey dial on a gray fabric strap. Functions include hours, minutes, seconds, and day. The watch also measures 11.8mm in thickness and 48.5mm from lug-to-lug.
