The Omega Seamaster Diver 300 meter is a classic. First launched in 1993, the now iconic diver rose to fame on the wrist of Pierce Brosnan during his 1995-2002 turn as James Bond. Today, the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M represents a family of affordable dive watches for connoisseurs and collectors who know that Rolex doesn't have a monopoly on quality. At prices well under $10,000, many versions of this Seamaster Professional represent ideal budget buys for collectors who have moved past Rolex.
2018 witnessed an all new Seamaster Diver 300 meter. The 42mm upgrade was both a relaunch of the line and a 25th anniversary homage to the 1990s original. Still rated at 300-meters water resistance and equipped with its signature helium gas release valve, the Diver 300M continued to offers robust competition for both Rolex's Submariner and its deluxe Sea Dweller line. The 2022 Seamaster reference 18.104.22.168.10.001 includes a fashionable green dial and matching bezel to do marketplace battle with Rolex's long-running series of green bezel Submariners. A retail price of $5,400 and walk-in availability at Omega authorized dealers gives the latest Omega dive watch two key advantages over its Rolex rival.
Also new for 2018 was the limited edition Omega Seamaster Diver 300M 25th anniversary edition. The Seamaster Diver 300M reference 22.214.171.124.99.001 is a luxury model made in 2,500 pieces for the most committed Omega watch collectors. It's a tribute to the original "tri-tone" Seamaster Diver 300M Chronograph of 1993. And like the 1993 watch, the new Seamaster includes titanium, rose gold, and tantalum in its construction. Unlike the original, the new tri-tone Seamaster is a simple diver without chronograph.
Further minimalism comes in the form of a titanium no-date dial. Omega automatic co-axial chronometer caliber 8806 provides 55 hours of power reserve, and it's a METAS certified Master Chronometer. Despite a retail price of $13,200, examples of the titanium-rose gold-tantalum Seamaster can be found for just under $10,000.
Finally the 2017 Omega Seamaster Diver 300M "Commander's Watch" pays direct tribute to the model's most celebrated cinematic pitchman: James Bond. Agent 007 wears a Planet Ocean these days, but the Diver 300M forever will be regarded as the original "James Bond Omega." In tribute, Omega launched the 7,007-piece Commander's Watch to acknowledge the literary and cinematic character's British Royal Navy background.
In addition to military-themed and UK-themed colors and ribbons, the Omega Commander's Watch includes both a bracelet and a strap with colors keyed to the watch. This was among the last of the 41mm Seamaster Diver 300 Meter models, and it includes a steel case with rare display caseback; few 41mm SMP Divers included a sapphire caseback. The movement, based on Omega co-axial caliber 2500, has been customized with James Bond-themed imagery. And despite criticism upon its initial release, this once-$5,000 Omega Seamaster now trades for $7,000-$9,000 as a collectible preowned watch.
All of this plus watch collector wrist shots will be featured in this episode of "Watches Tonight!"
