Dr. Albert Coombs is a passionate watch collector from the DC area, and his fascination with these mechanical objects began when he was around 7 years old. His intrigue with high-end horology kicked up a few notches at a pivotal moment in his career, as he received a Rolex GMT from a friend to celebrate his dental boards. In this special Collector Conversation, Dr. Coombs sits down with C’Q at WatchBox’s headquarters and retraces his early experiences in watch collecting, quality time spent with family, and the sentimental side of this horological hobby.
Of course, watches are a focal point of the conversation, and Dr. Coombs’ collection does not disappoint. From Patek Philippe’s Annual Calendar Chronograph Ref. 5960, to the Rolex Hulk – which he happened to add to his collection as his wife was in labor with their son – his grandfather’s Waltham which shows signs a life well-lived, and an absolute favorite, the Patek 5164, Dr. Coombs recalls the stories and memories around these watches and more.
C’Q and Al also discuss a new initiative – CP Time, which promotes camaraderie, knowledge, and the love of horology through the lens of black culture. This dynamic group is in its early days and offers a platform to connect people around the world as they share in celebrating and learning more about watches and the people who collect them.
