The 2018 Cartier Santos De Cartier Santos Large WGSA0011 surprised watch buyers and watch collectors at SIHH 2018. No new model introduced at the watch fair of Geneva can compare to the sheer economic impact of the new Cartier Santos, and the Santos Large is expected to be the top seller.
For 2018, the 114 year-old Cartier Santos -- arguably the world's first pilot's watch -- has been redesigned with a new curved case, flowing bezel, and quick switch lugs.
The new profile ensures that Cartier's watch wears well on wrists of all sizes, and the new bezel adds elegance even while retaining the famous "bezel screws" that have been a signature of the watch since Louis Cartier designed the first example for Brazilian dirigible pilot Alberto Santos Dumont in 1904.
Each Cartier Santos large includes a 100-meter water resistant case with a soft iron inner case to resist magnetism. The Cartier in house caliber 1847 is an automatic movement with 42 hour power reserve, stop seconds (hacking), and a quick set date.
Cartier's dial features traditional Roman numerals, Cartier "secret signature" at seven o'clock, and blue broadsword hands for hours and minutes. The date display anchors the silver dial at six o'clock, and a railroad/piano key track sits on the inner dial.
This 2018 Cartier Santos Large is equipped with an alligator leather strap and a rose gold Cartier Deployant Clasp.
The 2018 Cartier Santos De Cartier Santos Large WGSA0011 is encased in 39.8mm of rose gold surrounding a silver dial on a black alligator leather strap. Functions include hours, minutes, seconds, and date. The watch also measures 9.6mm in thickness and 47.5mm from lug-to-lug.
